Pray for Wisdom

Lord’s Prayer Focus: The Father’s Provision

The Father knows that His sons and daughters have needs. Some needs are physical, some emotional, and some spiritual. We are needy people, and that’s okay! The Father loves to respond to the hearts of His children when they come to Him humbly and desperately. Jesus taught us to pray, “Give us this day our daily bread…” (Matt 6:11). At the Father’s table, He has prepared for all of us more than enough to provide. You are invited to pull up a chair and to seek His provision.

Ephesians 6:19-20 (ESV) “19 and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.”

Acts 4:29-31 (ESV) “29 ‘And now, Lord, look upon their threats and grant to your servants to continue to speak your word with all boldness, 30 while you stretch out your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are performed through the name of your holy servant Jesus.’ 31 And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness.”

While we are praying, our desire should be to model our prayers after the examples in Scripture. In regard to witnessing, we see two different instances of the same prayer request. Both the disciples and Paul ask that believers would pray for them to have boldness. Paul goes so far as to say that speaking with boldness is the correct way to share the Gospel.

Starting a spiritual conversation can be awkward and unnerving and therefore witnessing can be terrifying. It can be difficult to know what words to say.  But these passages should give us hope. If the disciples and Paul needed prayers of boldness, we should not be discouraged that we need those prayers as well. Boldness while witnessing has to come from God because it is not our natural inclination. Pray that you and your spiritual brothers and sisters would witness with boldness.

Consider:
  • Do you witness with boldness?
  • If not, what are some reasons you hesitate to share with boldness?
