Pray for Wisdom

Lord’s Prayer Focus: The Father’s Provision

The Father knows that His sons and daughters have needs. Some needs are physical, some emotional, and some spiritual. We are needy people, and that’s okay! The Father loves to respond to the hearts of His children when they come to Him humbly and desperately. Jesus taught us to pray, “Give us this day our daily bread…” (Matt 6:11). At the Father’s table, He has prepared for all of us more than enough to provide. You are invited to pull up a chair and to seek His provision.

Ephesians 8:16 (ESV) “18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.”

1 Tim 2:1-4 (ESV) “First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, 2 for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. 3 This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”

Romans 10:1 (ESV) “Brothers, my heart's desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved.”

This may seem quite obvious, but the Bible tells us to pray for others. Though likely unsurprising, it is a good reminder. Sometimes we can get so tied up with our lives and our activities that we don’t take the time to pray for those around us. These passages are a good reminder to pray for those in our community.

Each of these passages highlights a different group that we can pray for. Paul reminded the Ephesians to be praying for those in the church, urged Timothy and his congregation to pray for government officials, and spoke to the Christians in Rome of his prayers for the lost. God intends for us to pray for all people, friends and enemies alike.

Consider:
  • How often do you pray for others?
  • Do you neglect any of these groups of people in your prayers?
